Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink
blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink
as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the
screen stencil forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the
open areas.
The screen printing method we use at JOJO Print and Promotions is the photo emulsion
technique:
- The original image is printed onto a transparent acetate overlay paper as a positive
(sections that you want printed are left in), a separate positive sheet is required
for each colour.
- The overlay is placed over the emulsion-coated screen, and then exposed with an
ultraviolet light source in the 350-420 Nanometer spectrum. Other light sources
do not work well. The UV light passes through the clear areas and create a polymerization
(hardening) of the emulsion.
- The screen is washed off thoroughly. The areas of emulsion that were not exposed
to light dissolve and wash away, leaving a negative stencil of the image on the
mesh. Ink can then pass throught the screen and onto the garment.
- Each layer of print is spot heated to cure the ink prior to the next layer being
printed, and each garment is cured in our industial garment heater at the end of
the printing process to mximise the life of the print.
Here at JOJO's we operate both manual and automatic screen printing processes, which
enables us to cater for small and bespoke designs as well as large wholesale orders.
Our screen printing technicians have over 35 years combined experience using these
printing techniques, giving us and yourselves the confidence that your order will
be completed in a competant and professional manner every time.
Getting started is easy, all we need from you to generate the positives for your
printing is an image (in any format), colours, sizes, quantities and styles of the
garments to be printed (or you can supply your own), and the number of colours required.
Our graphics department can even design your image or logo from scratch, and communicate
them to you via email for your approval (also available through online order system...
coming soon).
