JoJo Print and Promotions are very proud to have been involved in the supply, design
and printing of Africamp clothing that all of the Newport schools involved in Africamp
in 2009 (Bassaleg, Caerleon, Rougemont and St. Julians) will be wearing. This included
t'shirts and hoodies, both printed with the name of the pupil to the front and an
inhouse design to the rear inspired by the Africamp experience.
The kids are taking part in the Adventure Alternative Expedition to Kenya in 2009
(some of which are pictured below), which is a bone fide project conducted in support
of the Moving Mountains Street Child Programme and run in accordance with European
Directives. It is estimated that there is between 100,00 and 150,00 street children
in Kenya.
The Street Child Programme is a project that aims to improve the lives of underpriviledged
children through the provision of education, home support, counselling, free medical
care, vocational training and hope. Participants in the Adventure Alternative Africamp
Expedition havei n the past built water pipelines, schools, training centres, clinics,
orphanages and run many rehabilitation 'camps' for the children where they learn
important life skills and learn to interact with others.
Expedition members work with the street children in a very real sense; helping to
either run rehabilitation camps or develop plots of land to grow crops and rear
animals, as well as play with them. The simple human contact and attention that
team members provide sets an example that the children follow. Much time is spent
establishing trust through camping, working and playing together.
The children are taught basic hygiene and the elements of right and wrong. It is
an experience that deeply affects these kids from the streets and the benefits are
immediately obvious by the number who stay in school and by the growing popularity
iof the programme.
During their time in Kenya, participants will also undertake the challenge of reaching
the trekking peak of Mt Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa.
